Stop Creditors from Calling
Perhaps the most powerful protection offered to you by the FDCPA is your right to tell your creditors to stop calling. To accomplish this, write a letter to the debt collector demanding that they cease all communications with you. According to the FDCPA, the creditor must then comply with your request. There are only two exceptions. Creditors are allowed to inform you that:
- Collection efforts against you have ended.
- Legal action is being taken (such as when a creditor decides to sue you).
